The Hurricanes Vs. Auckland Blue!!!!!

2011 Hurricanes Super Rugby Fixtures

The next Hurricanes Super Rugby home match is the Hurricanes vs. Blues on Friday (6 May) at Westpac Stadium.

Support the Hurricanes in their quest for glory this season - last year they missed out on a place in the semi-finals and finished up mid-table in 6th equal place, so they will be out to bury those demons this season and take top spot in the 2011 Investec Super Rugby season.

The 2011 Investec Super Rugby draw started on 18 February and concludes on 18 June. The Hurricanes play six home games at Westpac Stadium in Wellington, plus one home match in Napier and one in Palmerston North.

Hurricanes CEO, Greg Peters said “2011 sees the start of an exciting new Super Rugby competition, which will kick off the biggest ever year for the game in this country. We’re thrilled to be able to take two of our home games out to the region, where and these will give supporters in both Hawke’s Bay and Palmerston North a great opportunity to cheer on their team, in their own backyard.

Rotorua Trip

This trip have been planned by us for ages...so right after the Marae trip we went there : Rotorua
Reaching there, the first thing we were greeted by was the sulfiric smell. Still not used to it... hehe  The next day we visited Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland and saw the Lady Knox Geyser...kinda disappointed that it was not naturally erupted though... :( The water rafting and Skyline ride was a blast...lots of adrenaline rush.. That nite we went to the night market..many stalls selling many stuffs kinda reminds us of the "pasar malam" back home. The next day on the way back to Welly, we stopped by Rose Orchard and picked some apples...too bad the weather doesn't really agree so we didn't stay long... Huka Falls was the next stop.. Scenic views..and beautiful waterfall...when we reached Taupo some of us decided to do bungy jumping...they had fun doing it..while we had fun rooting for them... (>_<)v after such a long trip we head home exhausted but contented with our trip...even though it was a short one..

MARAE visit

being in other country allow me to learn more about others culture and heritage...& one of it is Marae. for those who plan to come to NZ, i would suggest u guys to try on this activity. would be loads of fun!!!!!
let me educate u...hahahah(nk educate pulak kan!!!) let me tell u a bit about Marae..
Marae are Māori community facilities that usually consist of a carved meeting house, a dining hall and cooking area and the marae ātea (sacred space in front of the meeting house).

Marae are symbols of tribal identity. They are meeting places where people can discuss and debate issues. Marae are considered by Māori as tūrangawaewae - standing places, places of belonging.
If you are arranging a visit to a marae, preparation is important. Before the visit:
  • It is useful to find out about what will happen and what you will be doing. Knowing the kawa (ceremonial practices) of the marae will help you to understand and participate in the pōwhiri (formal welcome ceremony). Speak to someone at the marae about this.
  • Plan your time of arrival with the tangata whenua (local people of the marae). In most tribal areas you should plan to arrive during daylight. The tangata whenua initiate the pōwhiri by issuing a karanga (formal welcoming call). There may be a period of waiting before the karanga is issued.
  • It is best to organise a kaikaranga (one or two women who can karanga – respond to the call of welcome) in advance of the visit. If a kaikaranga is not available, advise the tangata whenua and seek their guidance.
  • Nominate Māori speaker/s (male, unless advised otherwise) to deliver the whaikōrero. Speaker should be good speakers of Māori and be able to speak on behalf of the group reasonably well.
  • Prepare waiata (songs) to support your speakers. You will need one song for each speaker.
  • Gather koha - usually a donation of money placed in an envelope to be given to the people of the marae.
  • Organise any extra kōrero such as a speaker from the tangata whenua to talk about the local history or the marae. Where possibel arrange this before your visit.
  • Learn about the etiquette of the marae. Some marae can provide a list of these guidelines e.g. whether alcohol is permitted, where food and drink can be consumed, any areas that are out of bounds.

Visiting a marae is a unique experience. Be prepared and you will enjoy the experience immensely.
Share your marae visit experience, read about associated protocols:
  • Greetings: How you say hello and introduce yourself
  • Pōwhiri: The formal welcoming ceremony
  • Karanga: The call inviting strangers to enter the marae or meeting place
  • Whaikōrero: The art of Māori oratory
  • Mihimihi: A less formal introduction given by individuals
  • Tangi: Māori funeral protocol and customs
